Before you start

Your home

A Google Matter hub already added to your home, such as Nest Mini or Nest Audio. Check the current hub list.
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for these devices; IPv6 enabled on the home network.
The exact device’s Matter code and completed manufacturer installation.

Your phone

A Google account and the latest Google Home app.
Android 8.1+ with Play services 22.48.14+, or iOS 16.5+.
Bluetooth LE 4.2+ enabled for pairing.

A hub is still required

This Wi-Fi route needs no Thread border router. Matter support does not establish mesh repeating or Wi-Fi range extension.

Connect in Google Home

Prepare the home and finish installation. P210M is an in-wall outlet requiring line, neutral and ground in an indoor dry location. Follow its US manufacturer guide and consult a qualified electrician when unsure. P400M has separate outdoor installation and weather-use limits on its device page.
Power the device and follow its pairing instructions. In Google Home, choose Add → Device, scan the Matter QR code and complete the prompts. Direct Matter setup is available; Tapo cloud linking is a separate route.
Already connected to another app? Use its Matter sharing instructions to add Google Home while keeping existing connections.
Name the device, choose a room and test each exposed outlet’s on/off control and state before adding routines.

When setup gets stuck

Added, but control fails?

Check IPv6. Google warns that setup may appear successful without it, then control fails. Confirm the compatible hub is set up in Google Home.

Already in the Tapo app?

Use its Matter sharing flow; it does not automatically appear in Google Home. Follow Google’s restart and app troubleshooting steps below before considering a reset.

What this route establishes

Local commands, separate cloud dependencies

Matter commands use your home network. Away-from-home control uses Google’s cloud and your hub. Full offline app, voice and account behavior is not established.

On/off control has a documented path. Energy readings, dimming, exact outlet mapping, minimum firmware and updates through Google Home remain unverified. Tapo or Home Assistant features do not establish support here.
